The Porsche 986 Boxster, introduced in 1996, was the company's first water-cooled non-front engine vehicle and became its biggest volume seller until the Cayenne. It was a mid-engine, rear-wheel drive sports car offered with 2.5 L, 2.7 L, and 3.2 L flat-six engines, with styling and engine upgrades made in 2003.
